Deep August
Deep August

Flowers grown in posts against a wall in my garden. I found designing a picture for a round canvas very difficult. Normally used for head and shoulders portraits which are bang in the centre, a round canvas makes a landscape composition challenging. This final solution moves the eye in a sweeping circle around the picture. If you look carefully you will see a bumble bee in flight as well as a resting butterfly. The image has strong tonal contrasts and reminds me of a ying/yang symbol.
This painting was accepted in to the Ipswich Art Society Annual Exhibition at Ipswich Public Gallery.
